The Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 from Asus is a revised version of the Sabertooth 990FX, hence the “R2.0” added to the model.
The Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 is also part of Asus’ TUF range of boards, like the B85 board reviewed a few weeks ago.
As you can see from the image above – a military grade board comes with military color scheme.
The socket area has 2 sides surrounded by heatsinks but it’s good that they’re not tall nor bulky. Overall there’s sufficient space to place the biggest of heatsinks, as seen in the GELID Darkforce casing review.
Nothing unusual on this part of the board.
Front facing SATA – I like!
I think one of the most interesting part of the board is the amount of PCI-E slots.
The PCI-E slot configurations are
– 3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual x16 or x16/x8/x8) *1
– 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black)
Damn good!
And lastly, the I/O ports. Lovely stuff.

The Verdict
This is the board to go for if you’re in for AMD’s FX range processors, especially the 8 series and 9 series.
I had no problems running FX 8350, 9370 and 9590 and overclocking wasn’t an issue.
With such high end processors, especially with the demanding power consumption from these AMD’s FX range processors, it’s assuring to know that the board comes with high quality VRM and 5-years warranty to back it up.
The board isn’t cheap, coming in at about RM 740 in the market BUT you’re paying for quality components with 5 years warranty. I think that’s a tremendous amount of value.
