Canon launches their new line-up for the Ixus and PowerShot product range today and the venue for the Media Briefing was at Dua Residency’s Delicious Café, along Jalan Tun Razak. For those who are not in the know, let’s just say it’s near KLCC. (Don’t know KLCC then need to knock your head already. HAHA!)
Finding my way to Dua Residency wasn’t a problem but the thought of the crazy morning traffic does make me hope I that I’ll better be damn smart or damn lucky in decision making.
I was actually wondering which one is Dua Residency, having checked the MAP so now I’m just hoping I don’t need to make more rounds, and sure enough – Canon was kind enough to place a huge CANON signboard that any idiot couldn’t miss!
It was around 11am, parked my car and head up to the place and it was already pretty packed.
The event started not long after I found a seat to park myself.
The Event
The emcee greeted all the attendees, then followed by speeches from the key people from Canon Marketing Malaysia.
They are Mr Liew Sip Chon, President & CEO….
…..Simon Wong, Assistant Director, ICP.
During the course of the event, we were presented with videos on Canon’s compact camera technology and also, Models and Models. 🙂 Yes, models walking around the venue with the new camera models.
Ahh, the horde of trigger-happy camera users – very hard to resist not to take photos of exposed beauties. By the way, the models in white IXUS tops are the Top Contenders in the recent DCIM Show 2009’s VelocityAngel Search. Here’s the link to the VelocityAngel Search.
I’ll post the model photos at the end of the article. Let’s not get you guys distracted! You could also visit the album I created on my Flickr account.
Now, on with the event again – this time around, a guest celebrity made an appearance and she was none other than Amber Chia. She was presented with the Ixus 100 IS.
After that, another photo opportunity. This was then followed by a press conference.
With the ending of the press conference, buffet lunch was then open for the attendees.
The Line-Up & My Thoughts
The Ixus and PowerShot range of cameras are really good cameras – No one paid me to say that! Seriously, I’ve used the Ixus and PowerShot range cameras throughout the years and currently my family members own the Ixus 80 IS and PowerShot A1000 IS and I think they’re really nice compact cameras.
Today, we see the newer range of Ixus and PowerShot range of cameras.
Ixus
We have the Ixus 95 IS that sports the usual Ixus style body.
There’s the higher model, Ixus 100 IS. Notice how they changed the chrome finish around the lens area to something that matches the body.
The RRP for 95 IS is at RM 988 while the 100 IS at RM 1,199.
And there’s the even higher model – Ixus 110 IS. Strangely it comes with the chrome finish again. This time however, the 110 IS shows a more curvy side of Canon’s design. It’s actually very nice to hold. The 110 IS is similar to the 990 IS. Strange, I don’t recall encountering the 990 IS. Either it wasn’t there or I got mixed up since they look-alike.
Anyway, the 110 IS’ RRP is RM 1,399 RRP while the 990 IS’ RRP is RM 1,499. The 110 IS over 28mm wide lens while the 990 IS starts at 37mm but has more zoom range.
I tried all the models on display and it was the 110 IS’s interface that looked the best. Heck, it even describes functions now! That’s what I call user-friendly. I mean really, how many compact cameras do you see actually include a brief explanation of WHAT the function does?
Look at the picture below, see how it descripts “spot metering” – I bet many out there don’t know how metering works, let alone the options in there.
PowerShot
The PowerShot SX200 IS – I think the price of this model pretty much rivals the G10. RRP is around RM 1,680.
Then we have the A2100 IS……
……and the A1100 IS.
Both are simple cameras, the look and feel of the A1100 IS is pretty much like the A1000 IS. 🙂 I like the A1000 IS a lot, and so does my father. A2100 IS’ RRP is TBA at the time of this article, the A1100 IS on the other hand is RM 747.00
Lastly we have the most fun (probably) camera around. It’s cute and clumsy, and looks a bit like a submarine and to a certain extent kinda reminds me of a puffer fish.
What I liked about it was that it’s meant to be waterproof, dustproof and shockproof…… I have no idea how idiotproof it is, the display unit was faulty (was told by the people taking care of it.) so I didn’t get to try out much. The buttons were rubber instead of the usual hard plastic.
Look at it this way, if ever it spoils, it still looks damn cool as a decoration or a toddler’s toy. Pricing not available.
Alright, looks like we’ve come to the end of the article. I hope you enjoyed the write-up.
Before you leave, here are the photos of the models…….
The Models
I guess most of us (other than the organizers and those who were informed beforehand) were totally unprepared for the model shoot. 🙂 For me, I just did the best I could to capture as many of them for my readers.
*Here come the girls from VelocityAngel Search 2009.*
Do remember that there’s also an album on my Flickr account for the VelocityAngel model photos and for this event. 🙂
