An exciting day it was, the launch of Sony Alpha A900 here in Malaysia – and to make it even better, the launch was held just before the Sony Alpha Convention on 10th October 2008, the first ever held in Malaysia.
To make it even more exciting, I was scheduled for another event later in the afternoon. 🙂
The publishing of this article was delayed by 1 day. I intended to publish it on 11th October but I just couldn’t get everything done in time, much thanks to my packed schedule during the weekend.*
Even before arriving at the venue, I was greeted by this………

Neat huh? It’s at KL Sentral, I decided to use the packed KTM Komuter instead of hurting my calf-muscles with the early morning traffic.
I made my way to the 6th floor at Le Meridian hotel.

Being a person who loves to be on time, I often reach the venue really early.

Yup, damn proud man! The first to register at the FIRST ever Sony Alpha Convention 2008. 😛 Heck, I’m not even a Sony user! Due to the early morning traffic, crowd was kinda slow in massing the area. I never saw this many Alphas in my entire life, it’s like everyone was practically carrying an A350!
And speaking of the A350, here it is!

and…….

I’ve never touched the A350 before. I used the A700 for a while, thanks to Alpha user Albert .
There were girls and bikes for you to shoot too (not with guns la……….).

Shortly after 10:00AM, we were ushered to the conference hall.

To cut it short, we had speakers such as the emcee and also the big guys from Sony to present on various aspects of Sony (tech, sales, every other thing else)

and then the launch of the A900. 🙂

Sony also had one of their key speakers for the conference, photographer Kris LeBoutillier gave a short testimony of the Alpha, and also announced a bunch of other stuff like AMC Mobile, online reality show Double Exposure, and also the joy to all Alpha users – PRICE CUT for Sony lenses!
The launch ended near noon, and we’re all set to head to 8th floor for lunch. But before that, I decided to drop by the Technology Room that show-cases Sony’s technology – including the cut-away camera here.

It was pretty crowded to take decent pics in there, I then made my way to Al Nafourah restaurant, the restaurant on the 8th flor that serves middle-eastern cuisine.

I thought that the A900 was an impressive camera, at least from what I see and hear so far. RRP of RM 9,999 is a steal, and the first 100 buyers get a free Sony HVL-F58AM flash and an additional battery! Damn, if only I have the money to spare.
I’m even more impressed that Sony was willing to admit that their lenses cost a bomb, and had decided to make effort to reduce the price of the lens line-up!

😀 For those of you who attended the convention, how was it?
Why la you always go so early? The events usually start 30 minutes after the published time. Trust me, I know. I’ve attended enough events to know this..hehhe
See you on monday!
I have a “bad habit” of coming at stated time. 😀 I don’t carry the “aiyah sure start late” kinda thinking.
Yes, Monday it is!
Would’ve been real nice if you got to try the A900. They had it chained to one of the platforms where you shot the A350… but I guess they used all their A900s for the Japanese Sony representatives.
Yeah Albert, I was with Justin and we just couldn’t locate any A900. 🙂 Perhaps it was chained there much later, man…………. unless I go again today. 😀 Unfortunately time doesn’t permit.
Oh no, I miss the convention. A900 is nice too, but it doesn’t have recording mode right?
I don’t recall anyone highlighting it. My spec / brochure is …….. erm ………. well not next to me. 😛 Why would anyone want video mode for it?
halo^^ nice coverage from you^^ as we’re not allowed to go inside the convention hall.. Nice Tech Blog you have here.
