Heavy Rain is Quantric Dreams’ game that was released a few years ahead of Beyond : Two Souls, Heavy Rain is a psychological crime thriller that puts you in control of 4 characters in the quest to uncover the Origami Killer.
The game starts off showing the main character of the show in a happy neighborhood, things turn sour as some unfortunate events occured and fast forwards a few years ahead we see a gloomy state of life and also the introduction of other characters, all in the quest to uncover the serial killer who leaves an origami behind on all its victims.
Being an interactive drama, the game requires the user to be constantly involved in the game. Think of it as an adventure game that doesn’t require you to run around too much, the “things to do” are always within the scene and all you have to do is move the character around and interact when the cues appear.
Some scenes are viewed in observer perspective while others are on 3rd person perspective. The game relies more on reflex and getting things done than actual thinking of what to do next.
Graphics and Audio
Despite being a remastered game, the graphics look dated. It has better textures and all but the facial expression and body movement isn’t as realistic as the newer titles but I guess this is expected.
Voice acting and sound effects are top-notched, I love the atmosphere it generates.
The game is linear, the story is interesting but it’s rather slow. Engaging but slow, I still love the game though. I’ll give it an 8/8 – I wish the graphics could be better but it’s a remaster of a game released more than half a decade ago so it’s actually still very good.
