ASUS launched the new U-Series and Eee PC products just a few days back, the event was held at The Terrace, The Curve.
The Products
The product line-up for today’s event were
Eee PC 1008HA ‘Seashell’
Impossibly thin and exceptionally stylish, the ASUS Eee PC 1008HA ‘Seashell’ takes the Eee PC Series to dizzying new heights. With a design inspired by the sleek sculpted shape of a seashell, the 1008HA is no thicker than your finger and weighs a mere 1.1kg, making it the most powerful and portable Eee PC to date.

Both aesthetically pleasing and boasting an equally stunning performance, the new ASUS U20A promises an exquisitely crafted, thin and lightweight notebook that takes away nothing in terms of functionality. Powered by an Intel® Core™2 Duo processor for multitasking performance, they are also accessories for the image conscious, those who assert their own individuality and appreciate the finer things in life.
U80V
Both aesthetically pleasing and boasting an equally stunning performance, the new ASUS U80 promises an exquisitely crafted, thin and lightweight notebook that takes away nothing in terms of functionality. Powered by an Intel® Core™2 Duo processor for multitasking performance, they are also accessories for the image conscious, those who assert their own individuality and appreciate the finer things in life.
Look ASUS and organizers, thank you for the press release and other information but you know what – it’s damn odd to say “Please visit http://my.asus.com/ for more information.” when there’s no information there!
I spent like 15 minutes or so doing some search, and I had to browse through loads of other sites to finally found the links to those products. And those details were found on the UK and CA (CA refers to Canada) sites! 🙁
I mean really, where’s the planning?
Fine, there’s the PR document file but I think that with websites and all, furthermore with “Please visit http://my.asus.com/ for more information.” stated – I believe it’s much better linking to an existing resource than to get readers to download the documents. Whether or not the document is there, my point is that the site should have the details if you are telling people to visit it for details.
The Event
This was the place, dim and badly ventilated. I was told that there was an air-conditioning malfunction.
And the crowd, mostly standing. If not, then the rest are probably sitting around or behind the bar.

Seriously, I have no idea why events these days tend to have entertainers. This it’s the 3rd event in 2 months I attended that had someone performing something.

The ASUS booth.
I thought I’d snap this just for fun – I think this is probably the item in the event that everyone practically didn’t notice. 🙂 It’s was a decoration on the registration counter.
My Thoughts
Looks like netbooks and slim notebooks are the trend. I’m sure you would’ve noticed that in my previous event reports. 🙂
I personally love the Eee PC range. Currently with me is the Eee PC 1002HA (yes, review coming out soon) and from what I see is that the Seashell has improved the keyboard layout and I’m pretty looking forward to try it out too.
No comments on the U series yet, other than being obvious that it’s a sleek-looker.
Hi, I was there for the event. I think the entertainment was okay and the purpose of the juggler is to show how light and easy the EeePC were. I think launching nowadays need entertainment more than speeches so I think it was refreshing to look at it. In my point of view, I agree with you on the website, they should have the information on the website if not what for they gave us the link. Cheers!
hey, thanks for dropping by!
Yes, it was about the light-weight of the Eee PC but I’m just expressing my thought on entertainers are often seen in event these days. 🙂 You’ll be surprised on how in some events, the entertainers aren’t even relevant to the products!
The original Eee PC launch like 2 years ago didn’t need specialist entertainers. Just a cute kid carrying the Eee PC (and nearly dropped it!!!) was enough to prove the point. 😀
Again, it’s just my thought on that part. I find nothing wrong with it as long as there’s relevance.
btw you brought up a good point on speeches, the ASUS event speeches considered short already. 😀 I’ve had worse, LOL, listen until feel like sleeping type.
Definitely ASUS is one of the best for Notebook PC and Laptops and also other PC accessories. I also believe on their product quality but new products must have evaluated and great feedback will increase that’s popularity. So, waiting to see more feedbacks.
From what I heard, ASUS’ support has improved through the years. Certainly in the past, people have complained of good products lacking good support.
I have been using Asus laptop for a couple of months now and am mostly happy with it. Light weight, good size, fits in a suitcase easily. Even with less then the advertised 11hrs of operations, the run time is still outstanding. The quick start up is a big plus compared to my old machine.
