Google Announces First Smartphone – The Pixel and Pixel XL

First Smartphone or Smartphones? Going by the products announced, that’s 2 different phones. The Pixel XL is of course the larger variant among them that sports a 5.5” AMOLED QHD (2560 x 1440) 534ppi display screen over the Pixel that has a 5.0″ AMOLED Full HD (1920×1080) 441ppi display. What else is there?


That aside, here are the specs summary – both Pixel and Pixel XL are powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragonâ„¢ 821 (2.15Ghz + 1.6Ghz, 64Bit Quad-Core processor) with an Adrenoâ„¢ 530 GPU. Both also sports 4GB RAM and comes in either 32GB or 128GB internal storage. The Pixel has a 2,770 mAh battery while the Pixel XL’s battery is at 3,450 mAh.

Both Pixel and Pixel XL come with 12.3 MP rear and 8 MP camera front camera.

First Impressions

As always with a Google phone, they look great and I’m sure they work great. I still love my 4 year old Nexus by Samsung. One interesting to note is that the phone is being market as “Phone by Google” rather than being under any brand, it’s built by HTC though.

Google is also promoting the Pixel range of phone with Daydream View for VR experience.
