Canon unveils its highest-resolution EOS 5DS R and EOS 5DS as well as all-new 4K camcorder series with XC10

Canon today launched two flagship EOS cameras; the EOS 5DS R and EOS 5DS. At 50.6-megapixels, the EOS 5DS R and EOS 5DS come equipped with a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor and dual DIGIC 6 image processors to offer the highest image resolution in Canon’s extensive range of DSLR cameras to date.

“The EOS 5DS R and EOS 5DS mark a milestone in Canon’s range of DSLRs, with their breakthrough high image resolution in the 35mm format,” said Wataru Nishioka, President and CEO, Canon Marketing Malaysia. “Both cameras are an excellent choice for discerning users who appreciate fine details, thanks to their ultra-high image resolution and excellent range of features.”

“Canon is also delighted to introduce an all-new 4K camcorder series beginning with the XC10 – which allows users to capture exceptional 4K-resolution videos, as well as high-quality still images,” Nishioka added.

EOS 5DS R & EOS 5DS: Canon’s Dynamic Duo

With a 50.6-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, the EOS 5DS R and EOS 5DS have by far the highest resolution in Canon’s history of EOS cameras. At this sensor resolution, images that are dramatically trimmed or cropped will still retain optimum quality and details for print.

With Optical Low-Pass Filter cancellation (LPF), the EOS 5DS R captures incredibly detailed and sharp images whereas the EOS 5DS reduces the moiré effect using the optical LPF. Both cameras are well suited for users who take still landscape and studio photos, as well as commercial images for large-format printing.

Powered by the advanced Dual DIGIC 6 image processors, both the EOS 5DS R and EOS 5DS produce a high-speed readout capability and maximum continuous shooting speed of 5 frames per second (fps), despite the large image data size that comes with 50.6-megapixel image quality.

What’s more, the AF system in these cameras is a high-precision 61-point high-density reticular AF on par with that of the EOS 5D Mark III. It responds sensitively to subject distance and adjusts automatically – even with the subtlest changes in composition.
The EOS 5DS R and EOS 5DS also feature a newly developed mirror vibration control system to counteract the effect of shaky hands.

XC10: Canon’s debut 4K camcorder

The XC10 steps out as Canon’s first of a brand new series of digital video camcorders supporting 4K-resolution video. Targeting professional and advanced-amateur videographers, the camcorder is well suited for a wide range of applications – from the shooting of promotion videos and documentaries to news gathering shooting and use as a digital cinema sub-camera for scenes requiring a high level of shooting mobility.

Making possible 4K-resolution video with exceptional image quality, the new XC10 employs four technologies newly developed by Canon: a high-sensitivity 1.0-inch CMOS sensor, a 4K video lens offering 10x optical zoom, the high-performance DIGIC DV 5 imaging platform, and the proprietary XF-AVC video format.

The XC10 makes use of the Intra Frame 4K video compression format, which achieves a maximum 305 Mbps (Megabits per second) bit rate; delivering a high data-compression rate without sacrificing image quality to contribute to reduced data volume.

Supporting the capture of high-resolution still images, the Canon XC10 incorporates an approximately 12.0-megapixel 1.0-inch CMOS sensor delivering a maximum ISO speed of 20000, and a mechanical shutter that eliminates rolling shutter skew even when capturing subjects moving at high speed.
