Thermaltake is not a rookie company when it comes to power supply unit, in fact they’ve been producing great power supply units with their ToughPower range of PSU. So what we have here today is the Thermaltake SMART DPS G 650W.

Unlike the ToughPower range though, the Smart Power Management (SPM) models come with intelligence system to monitor power usage via software. Head over to the official product page to learn out the smart features, including fan failure, over temperature (over 140℉/60℃), and abnormal voltage level alerts.

Out of the box the Thermaltake SMART DPS G unit is as what it is, a PSU with modular cables.

It is not a fully modular unit, and what I like about TT’s range of PSU is that they come with flat type cables that make it easier to cable manage.

User Experience

The PSU works great, I tested it on high load with wall draw going over 630W which is more than 90% of it’s claimed delivery capacity and I ran it for more than 8 hours without running into any issues.

Downloading the software was a hassle, not only do you need to register the software, you’ll need to make sure you have Adobe Flash Player Version 2.0.0.270 or above and Microsoft .NET Version 4.5 or above in order to use it. Once you complete all the above task that feels like a mission in a game, you’re good to go with the software.

The software works fine, with my hours of testing I see the software does not crash and reports the power draw very well. Note however that the software reports actual system power draw which is different from wall draw.

Another thing to note is that not all graphics card power draw can be detected.

The Verdict

The Thermaltake SMART DPS G 650W Gold Modular Power Supply Unit retails at RM 559, a solid unit with flat type modular cables and a software that helps you understand your system better. The best thing about the unit is that it comes with 7-years warranty.

The warranty varies between the DPS G model, warranty details are available at the official product page.
