It’s quite common nowadays for one to go around with large chunks of data – whether it be some P&C details for your work, or the many photos and videos you took from your vacation. Portable SSD like the HP P500 is not only affordable but compact in size, making it a great companion for those who thrive on data.
Being a modern external drive the HP P500 is, it connects using USB Type C interface using USB 3.2 Gen 1 (backwards compatible) storage interface.
It’s available in 120GB, 250GB, 500GB and 1TB capacity, with read and write speeds up to 420MB/s on the highest model and lowest being 370MB/s Read speed with 100 – 200 MB/s write speed. The one with me here are the 500GB and 1TB model so the R/W are at 420/420 and 410/420 respectively, with their TBW being 300 and 500.

Some of your modern devices might not have a USB Type-A port at all, so HP included a Type-C to Type-A converter along with the Type-C to Type-A cable. In other words, it’s a Type-C to Type-C cable once you connect the attachment to the cable.

As always, product pages always claim their capable speed so for this product I have tested out the performance and it delivers.

Below are the speed recorded for both 1TB and 500GB model, as you can see the Read and Write speed is beyond the rated on their product page which is a VERY GOOD thing.

I won’t go into detail of this software, just know that it’s a software you can use for backup or cloning your storage, and it’s free to use and HP users have the privilege to acquire the license to the full software at a reduced price.

The Verdict
I like the compact nature of the drives, and that it comes with not only the cable but a converter attachment as well. Hardware aside the free to use Acronis True Image OEM stretches the value even further. The 500GB model is available at the SRP of RM 268, and the 1TB model is at RM 433.
