The Cougar Immersa, the latest gaming headset from Cougar, one of which I encountered during Computex 2016 and was quite attracted to it.
It is an attractive looking headset with large earpiece and suspended headband.
Here’s a view from the top, the IMMERSA’s hanging leatherlike headband design is lightweight, allowing longer hours of usage and minimizing physical contact with other parts of the headset.
The 100mm earpiece on the Immersa is huge and it comes with large faux-leather covered cushions that are comfortable to the ear, and not to mention the earpieces are flexible too with its omni-directional design so that helps a lot when it comes to getting a good fit and better sound isolation.
The Immersa comes with a mic that’s embedded in one of the earpiece, and the mic is bendable too. Keep it when not in use, bend it the way you like so you get the best reception.
Lastly the cables, the unit comes pre-attached to a splitter unit for mic and audio connection. Basically the unit by default uses 4-pole connection that works with laptops, phones and tablets while the attached splitter unit is used when connecting to desktop setup where one splits the mic and the audio connection.
Below are the specs taken from the official product page.
User Experience
The Cougar Immersa works right out of the box with no drivers required, the unit is comfortable and I spent hours gaming Overwatch without feeling any form of discomfort. The earpiece comes with thick cushion and covers my ears entirely (I do not have big ears).
The audio output is good, thanks to the 40mm Neodymium magnet driver. I feel that it provide good tonal coverage but being a gaming headset the Cougar Immersa comes with quite some bass boost. I’m happy report that while the Immersa is boomy, it’s not the type that gives a hollow bass. Mid tones and treble are covered too, they’re present and not overwhelming which is a good thing.
As for communications, the mic with noise cancellation technology works great and I had no problem communicating with my team mates.
The Verdict
The Cougar Immersa – an affordable gaming headset that looks great, sounds great and feels great. This is pretty much the GO-TO headset if your budget is around the 50 USD mark.
