While ISPs often bundle routers as part of their package, one could always use a better router, especially those who wish to have more control over their network and the Aztech FG7008GR(AC) is one of those.
The FG7008GR(AC) build is solid, tall and solid. It comes with all indicators shown at the front but it seems like one can only position the router in vertical fashion.
The details on the FG7008GR(AC) are sufficiently clear and as you can see it does provide a whole lot of indicator.
Here’s the view from the rear, it comes with 2 USB 3.0 ports for added functionality.
User Experience
Setting up the Aztech FG7008GR(AC) was easy and I’m quite surprised at the wealth of detail and settings available in the user interface.
It’s not just the typical overview but it goes into a lot more detail.
For example, it tracks the data packets going in and out of the router and identified via port as well. This allows you to monitor the usage any group of computer that uses that particular port, like say if you have a group of computers that are linked through a switch that passes through Ethernet Port 1.
Being a MIMO router, one wouldn’t be complete without settings for Wireless. With MIMO technology the Aztech FG7008GR(AC) allows faster and more stable connectivity though this claim is not something one can easily test.
That aside, the network admin in you might be really pleased with the features found on the Aztech FG7008GR(AC) as you will be able to configure even the most detailed of security settings.
Signal wise the Aztech FG7008GR(AC) is good but it’s a little behind my Asus RT-N14U. When placed at the same location the Aztech FG7008GR(AC) shows 4 bars while the N14U shows 5.
The Verdict
The Aztech FG7008GR(AC) retails at RM 700, it’s certainly not the cheapest model out in the market and you shouldn’t be looking at this one just for the sake of “Replacing” your existing modem or router.
At that price point, it’s clear that the Aztech FG7008GR(AC) was made for people with a specific purpose in mind and that is to have greater network control and monitoring.
