TP-Link®, a leading global provider of consumer and business networking products, today announced the AC2200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender RE550, the first in the world to offer tri-band Wi-Fi. Along with the latest advancements in their home networking portfolio, RE550 was unveiled at this fall’s IFA, which will run from September 2-7 in Berlin.
Powered by the Qualcomm Atheros chipset, The RE550 was designed to offer the perfect combination of the latest wireless technology to provide the most advanced range extension available, starting with the world’s first tri-band Wi-Fi extension.
Range Extender Meets Tri-Band for Modern Wi-Fi
Using 11ac Wi-Fi, the RE550 speed can reach up to 2134Mbps in total. The 400Mbps 2.4GHz band perfectly handles all web surfing, emailing, and social media posting, while two 867Mbps 5GHz bands tackles 4K video streaming, lag-free gaming and large file downloads. Band steering automatically selects the best Wi-Fi band for each device automatically, organizing a balanced network to serve more devices at once. To maximize coverage of these speeds, the RE550 has four powerful antennas that can connect to any router from farther away, while transmitting a stronger signal in every direction, as well as beamforming to create wider, targeted connections to wireless devices. Finally, 2×2MU-MIMO technology allows the RE550 to run multiple devices at the same time to achieve speeds up to 2X faster than standard AC range extenders. The result: an intuitively stronger, more stable network for all.
Powerfully Functional, Surprisingly Simple
Because every home is unique, every home Wi-Fi need is just as different, which is why the RE550 is designed to serve them all. AP-Mode enables configuration as a Wi-Fi access point, setting wired devices such as desktop computers, game consoles, and IPTVs free with wireless capability, and a Gigabit Ethernet port enables these wired devices with access to – gigabit speed. For setup, a Smart Signal Indicator light helps to find the right location to place the RE550.
“A home with unstable, Wi-Fi, filled with dead zones can be a terrible frustration,” explained Andy Chen, Director of International Business at TP-Link. “Not only does the RE550 have the power to eliminate these problems, but it also has the technology to support multiple wireless devices in the best way possible.”
