And so the 8th Generation Intel processor is in the lab and with us is the Intel Core i5-8400.
Before I begin, I would like to highlight that the video review of this processor is also available.
Here’s the CPU-Z for the Intel Core i5-8400. Do check out the product specs at Intel.
Nothing to talk about here so let’s move on to the benchmarks.
The Benchmarks
The Intel Core i5-8400 is one amazing processor, the price is expected to hover around RM 700 – 900 range but as you can see the performance is pretty much comparable to that of an Intel Core i7-7700K, Ryzen 5 1500X and Ryzen 5 1600X.
The unit didn’t come with any cooler so I paired it with my Noctua NH-L9x65 and I saw the temperature reading peaked at only 67°C while power draw from the wall reading hovers at around 90W when on load.
The Verdict
I do not have the price for the Intel Core i5-8400 but the estimated price for Malaysia market is RM 700 – RM 900 range, it could be more but it shouldn’t be too far apart. The Intel Core i5-8400 is now a “6 cores 6 threads” model which is unlike before where all Core i5 models were “4 cores 4 threads”.
In terms of percentage, going from 4 to 6 cores in total means it’s a 50% increase and what’s best about Intel systems is that it has less memory issues compared to the AMD counterpart and it comes with on-board GPU.
