EVGA 500 BV Power Supply Review

Cheap and good – that’s the EVGA 500 BV which is a 500W power supply unit with 80Plus Bronze rating, it’s a non-modular PSU that retails at just RM 219!

If you haven’t heard of it then it means you haven’t watched my video.

It’s a simple PSU, no metal fan grilles – just a grille that’s already part of the enclosure.

On the other side, again you see nothing fancy. I don’t even know how to describe it.

EVGA included the power delivery table not only on the product itself but also in paper form.

You can view the PDF version from EVGA as well and mind you this is an RM 219 power supply unit that gives you OVP (Over Voltage Protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection) – what more could you ask for?

User Experience

As always I test PSU over hours of load one a consumer system and the EVGA 500 BV was subjected to the same torture with my rig with an AMD FX-9590 and multiple GPUs running on full load.

The reading above is one of the highest recorded, it usually hovers around 470W wall draw and based on my estimation that’s around 80% load running for more than 12 hours on a supposedly budget PSU. 🙂 With a 120mm fan the EVGA 500 BV is silent on load too.

Lastly I’d like to point out that this is a short 140mm PSU making it ideal for smaller casings.

The Verdict

EVGA 500 BV Power Supply retails at just RM 219 and has 3 years warranty, it has 80Plus Bronze rating with around 85% typical efficiency, it has all sorts of protection mechanism and most importantly it delivers the power you need. Awesome stuff from EVGA!
