CNet Wireless-G Long Range USB Adapter CUA-854L Review

CNet Wireless-G Long Range USB Adapter CUA-854L Review

It’s bigger than your average adapter and looks like a magic wand from Harry Potter – how good is it?

The Package and Bundle

The package comes with the USB device, Driver CD and installation manual. No USB extension or anything, simply because the device itself comes with a pretty long cable.

It comes with a huge base to support the antenna.

The base even comes with 2 strong magnets, so be careful where you place them. 🙂

The strong magnets allow you the flexibility to place it on your casing, any part of it that allows magnetism to hold.

Installation and Performance

Installation was a breeze, it’s just a matter of plugging the device and installing the driver.

I installed this on one of my machines placed at the most secluded part of the house. Here’s the signal when I’m using my original device, which is the Netgear MA111.

And with the CNet from the exact same location, the base was placed exactly where the Netgear was.

interesting, LZ78 and WL-AM604g were from the same location and we see a drop on LZ78’s signal by 2 notches and WL-AM604g remained as it is. The other WiFi signal called Bad WiFi was boosted up 2 notches, this is not my WiFi. It’s from my neighbor who I have no idea who or where he is (hey dude, if you’re reading this. Thanks!)

The location of LZ78 and WL-AM604g was upstairs while the testbed was downstairs in a secluded room.

Not satisfied, I did another test and this time on the Eee PC with the onboard WiFi vs the CNet. Here’s the signal before the CNet was installed.

And with the CNet.

Bad WiFi got boosted LZ78 remains unchanged while WL-AM604g dropped a notch.

What can I draw from this? I think the Bad WiFi could be on the same level as the testbed which explains the better boost in reception.

Conclusion

Do I see a signal boost? Yes, I do see drops too.

Basically if you’re looking for a wifi device with huge reach, then I think this device works great for you. If you already have an existing WiFi device and would like more reach? I think it’s a gamble, you might see a boost.

Nevertheless the device works fine and shouldn’t be dismissed. RRP is RM 110.

  11. People that use these devices freely without protection are
most likely to suffer from an acoustic neuroma at some point in their life.
The mechanism is very clear: charged particles or photons of sufficient energy shred cellular
tissue by kicking electrons out of molecules. Some are considerably lower, and would probably be your best choice when looking for a new phone.
