The packaging doesn’t boast much but from what I’ve experienced, the TP-Link AC3150 is certainly one feature rich router.
Starting off, let’s have a look at the unit itself – a simple design with black finish, a combination of both glossy and non-glossy material.
From the side, TP-Link AC3150 comes with a host of function such as a button to disable Wi-Fi and also USB ports to support print and media sharing.
At the rear are the LAN ports, the power connection, power button and antenna connection point.
The unit is ready to roll once you have all the antennas hooked.
Here’s what it looks like, nothing fancy at all but I like it that way.
When powered up you’ll see the LED indicators at the center of the surface area.
User Experience
Setting up the unit was easy, though what I noticed is that it automatically is assuming of the role as main router. I wish that TP-Link provides and alternative setup for using it as an extended / add-on router.
I can still be done, I’ve configured it to but for that setup it requires a little bit of networking knowledge.
What I like about the TP-Link AC3150 is that it comes with great interface, such as the summary interface here.
I mentioned about print and media sharing, here’s where you make fine adjustments to it.
For those of you sharing the connection with others, the bandwidth control gives you the flexibility to assign bandwidth accordingly.
Parental controls are great too, especially for keeping kids away from unwholesome materials.
The TP-Link AC3150 comes with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band configuration, you can choose to run both or either.
Lastly, the TP-Link AC3150 also comes with built-in protection system.
Being a MIMO unit, the TP-Link AC3150 helps greatly when it comes to keeping up with high speed Internet connection.
I’m on Unifi’s 30Mbps package and with the default D-Link DIR-615 router that’s about half a decade old now, Wi-Fi connectivity is good but it doesn’t utilize the bandwidth available.
Once I hop on to the network provided by the TP-Link AC3150 the Wi-Fi connection blazes away at maximum available speed!
The Verdict
The TP-Link AC3150 Wireless MU-MIMO Gigabit Router retails at around RM 1,000 and comes with 2-years warranty, it’s an amazingly feature rich router that you should consider if you love to have control over your network.
