The Sentinel KAI-9 is a Macro Programmable, fully backlit gaming keyboard with onboard memory. 6 Macro-ableâ„¢ Keys and 3 Profiles on-the-fly mean that gamers can program up to 18 macros and save them on the KAI-9.
The board is feature rich, on the left side are 6 macro keys and on the upper left are some buttons for profile changes and application launchers.
On the upper right side of the keyboard are media control buttons.
And that’s it – that’s the keyboard, as simple as it is.
More details at the official product page. (It is the correct page, it’s just that the product was named differently on the title).
User Experience
While it is a gaming keyboard, bear in mind that it DOES NOT come with mechanical key switches. The beauty of this keyboard is the software that allows you greater controls over the keyboard.
I must say that the software needs improving, it works but it’s not polished. I see typos and there seems to be no way for me to change the backlight color even though the box says it comes with a variety of backlight colors. You’ll see all the colors available when you set the lighting to cycle through it.
Here’s what it looks like in the dark.
The edges under space bar made it slightly uncomfortable while the profile buttons are a bit tough to press.
The Verdict
The product retails at around RM 140, which is a pretty good price for something this feature rich and works great even out of the box. The functionality of the board is further enhanced by the software.
This board is clearly catered for the gamer with a tight budget, and from what I see, the board will definitely be better once the software is improved.
