Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival (KLPF) 2009

With the success of KLPF 2008 and the rather disappointing DCIM 2009, people look forward in hopes that KLPF 2009 would be a much better photography event.

What is KLPF

Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival

Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival (KLPF) is Malaysia’s first and only combination of photography and travel events, which comprises a series of photography exhibitions, forums, seminars, slides shows and contests, for a period of two days. The Yearly Photography Festival organized by Photo Creator Publication (Advanced Images Magazine, Photo Creator Magazine, Travelmate Magazine & Travelution Magazine).

The KLPF offers FREE ENTRY to the public. The event will showcase state-of-the-art digital cameras, printers and solutions that feature the latest digital imaging products, product demonstrations and seminars.

In conjunction with this event, photography contests will be held with attractive prizes. It aims to promote photography as a healthy hobby, encourage interaction and extend the festival experiences among readers, photography enthusiasts, upcoming photographers, travelers and others.

I wonder why didn’t they call it KLPTF since it also involves TRAVEL. 🙂

My Thoughts

Before I begin, I assure my dear readers that I won’t be as long winded as in the DCIM 2009 article.

Let’s begin – KLPF’s theme for the year is “going green” – or at least that’s what the exhibition is about at their site but I have no idea why they didn’t state it any where prominent on the page.

Don’t mind the small arch, it’s actually part of the event venue.

There’s quite a lot of thing on showcase here, pretty similar to what was seen last year at Berjaya Times Square. The only thing missing this year (I think) is Sony. Where is SONY!??!?! Missing from DCIM and now KLPF, not a good sign – you’re disappointing your users! I’m not a Sony user but a friend of mine did express his disappointment.

So anyway, it’s full of gears and accessories and whatever you never need and some items you never thought existed could be seen here.

I’ll let the photos do the talking. 🙂 As you can see, cameras are the items of focus. From the huge ones like the Nikon D3x that costs nearly RM 30,000 and shoots like a machine gun, to compact ones like those in the photo below.

There are accessories.

The are services such as framing and photobook printing.

There are magazines ready for your subscription.

…….. with their gears!

And of course, talks! I didn’t attend on Saturday, I missed my friend Louis Pang‘s talk. 🙁 Nevertheless, there are a lot of talks (they call it seminar) in this event. Covering photography and travel, many of the talks are in Chinese. The talks are held in either the rooms or the stage as seen in the photo below.

And just as in almost any other event – there’s lotsa GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS! I pity them though, I think some of them (especially the hotter ones) would have deteriorated eye-sights after their job ends.

Look at the hordes of photographer at the Tamron booth! All it takes is a slim figure to wear shorts and tubes and it’s a recipe for crowd.

The sweet girl at the bronic booth probably got the most damage from the triggered strobes, MY EYES! (Just in case you didn’t know, I’m not the type of person who goes around just to snap girls. Just not my kinda thing, I cover events – not stockpiling a collection of girl pic.)

Then there’s the ULTRAVIOLET-based ladies, another crowd puller when I was there.

Anyway, I took this photo for fun – I thought it funny that nowadays sales girl with less coverage is so common. Bag? what bag? Oh…….. that bag. 😛 Admit it la guys, I’m sure most of you saw the fair legs and denim clad butt before the bag.

And the most crowded part of the day was during the Fuji’s donno whatchamacallit shootthegirl and hopetowinsomestuff thing. There’s more angles but I think this one says it all.

Before I end this article, here’s a pano view of part of the exhibition hall.

😀 I was happy I managed to get to know quite a few solutions provider who I could possibly engage their service in the near future, and also meet with friends of the same interest, and also try out gears unfamiliar to myself, such as the Nikon and Olympus cameras – and I must say that the Olympus Pen is awesome! Now if only it was cheaper.

As to the organizers, you guys could do better on the website part – overall the event was great and I hope that KLPF would always be a good time to gather again. 😀
