A few days ago I posted this photo on Facebook, as mentioned – 2 of the distinct advantage of this lens is the macro mode and minimum focusing distance.

So I’ve made a video to show the capability of the Macro mode. Enjoy! (Video after the jump)

I love the macro mode, I think it’s great for wedding photographers and such who would occasionally use the macro mode to photograph rings and other details, this works great.

On the downside, you’re REALLY close to the subject. For example, the above video was taken without the hood. I wouldn’t have been able to go that close with the hood on. So it’s good for still subjects that are not startled by proximity – in short, not for you to photograph bugs and such. They’ll escape even before you get a good distance, go for a proper Macro lens for such.

The macro mode is for macro out of convenience. It’s not 1:1 magnification and the distance to the subject is really close. Take note of that.

So, do you like the feature?

I think it’s a great add-on to standard zoom lens range, so you need not carry a dedicated macro lens just for the occasional macro moments.
