51st Merdeka Day Coming yet I’m Not Proud
I’m not proud of the discrimination that occurs here in Malaysia.
I am a Malaysian. I am called Malaysian according to the law but I am not with full rights of a Malaysian.
But what ticked me off to write this?
Recently, UITM - one of Malaysia’s university, was proposed by a Mentri Besar to allow non-bumiputera (Bumiputera = the people of a particular race - Malays - that has more rights than Malaysians of other ethnicity.) and it was shot down as if the suggestion was an absolute insult that would bring down the whole country and bring misery to the nation within and outside of it.
Prof Ibrahim said the call to have non-bumiputras allowed into the university was against the purpose of setting up the university.
“UiTM was set up to provide the bumiputras a chance to improve themselves by attaining tertiary education,” he told a press conference at the university here yesterday.
Right, discrimination when it comes to intake. Aren’t we all not Malaysians? Chinese schools and Tamil schools have willingly accepted Malays without questioning. All are treated as friends. So what is so special about UiTM that it is only exclusive for Malays? Aren’t we all Malaysians? If the institution was good, why is it that non-bumiputeras are NOT allowed to be part of it?
I thought a good educational institution is what all of us could be proud of, regardless of race or skin color.
UiTM students strongly objected to the proposal, describing it as illogical and inappropriate.
“We (the students) are very disturbed by the statement and we have planned our strategy on what to do if the Mentri Besar does not apologise and retract the statement,” he said.
Disturbed? Fine……. but the other part kinda looks like blackmailing. IF YOU DON’T……WE HAZ ZE PLANS!
Ok now as if that was not ridiculous enough…
Some of the 5,000 UiTM students who held a peaceful march to protest the call by Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim over opening up UiTM to admit students of other races.
Say…… isn’t this an ILLEGAL GATHERING? If yes, why was no action taken? Double standards?
They then marched 500 metres to Bangunan Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, singing the university song UiTM di Hatiku’ while carrying banners and placards with various declarations — “Jangan Rampas Hak Kami” (Do not seize our rights), “Selamatkan UiTM”‘ (Save UiTM) and “UiTM di Hatiku”‘ (UiTM in our hearts). The students, however, did not see Abdul Khalid as he was at a meeting elsewhere.
HAHAHAHHA! Now that’s a joke. So having 10% of non-bumiputera is equivalent to SEIZING RIGHTS? WTH!?!??! And Save UiTM? Meaning if 10% non-bumiputera joins the educational institution it will bring the place to ruins?
In my opinion, those words are an insult to the non-bumiputeras.
