Bluetooth and 3G Connectivity with Samsung SGH-L760 3G Mobile Phone
Let’s fine out more about this phone’s connectivity….
Bluetooth
The phone was hassle free when it comes to using bluetooth.
I’ve tried connecting to a Sony Ericsson K700i, Nokia 3110 classic and even an Apple Macbook – NO PROBLEMS! Connections were established easily, files were transferred in a jiffy.
The funny thing was that I couldn’t get it to detect bluetooth headset , even SAMSUNG’s WEP185. I tried with the 2 pieces of bluetooth devices with me, one from Sony Ericsson and the other from Samsung. None of them got detected. Both devices are confirmed in working condition, even the Samsung headset had no issues with Nokia 3110 classic.

The Macbook was the only means I have that I could show the data transfer rate for bluetooth connection.
3G
3G works great! I could browse using the NetFront browser that’s pre-installed on the phoen. I could get RSS feeds. I could do anything with the Internet, just that it’s a pity that browser didn’t work that well for me.
I could check stuff like Yahoo! Mail but unfortunately sending is just impossible. Neither could I log into the forums.
Please don’t ask me stupid things like DID YOU CHECK COOKIE OPTIONS, I’m not some newbie on using the Internet. I wouldn’t even be posting negative points without first checking.
As A Modem
My computers could connect to the Internet with this phone. Nice!
My PC connected to the mobile phone flawlessly. After installing the PC Studio software that came along with it, I could setup the Internet connection by using the phone as a modem. Cool.
On the Macbook, it just refuse to get detected via USB data-cable. Luckily it has Bluetooth connectivity. So I was pretty curious on whether I could use my Macbook to connect to the phone via Bluetooth and use it as a modem.
So here was my question to Samsung’s representative……
I have a macbook and it can interface with the L760’s Bluetooth.
Is it possible to share the bluetooth connection so that the macbook can access Internet via the L760’s 3G?
Here’s the reply I got……
No we do not have any Mac support for modem connection as of this moment for L760.
At the moment it fully supports WinXP and Vista.
User requires Samsung PC Studio installed on his/her machine in order for L760 to be recognised and used as modem, via either data-cable and bluetooth.
As you can see from the :: Mobile Exciting!! – Samsung Fun Club :: link for PC Studio, there’s only support for WinXP and Vista as of this moment.
So the Macbook can’t use the SGH-L760 as a modem like a PC?
WRONG!
It seems that the guys at Samsung don’t know their products very well. I’m not going to go into RANTING MODE so let’s move on …..
I managed to hook my Macbook to the Internet by connecting to the SGH-L760 with Bluetooth. Nope, no manual, no help, no nothing. Only Uncle Google for a little pointers here and there and a little bit of logic PLUS the understanding of establishing connection.
Yes, It’s my first time using 3G device and establishing such a connection.
Finally my Macbook HAS mobility even WITHOUT that PC Studio software.
Of course, that also meant no synchronization but I’m fine with that.

Pity it’s rather slow, Celcom’s so-called 384kbps connection is giving me such horrible speed. I tried 3G connection with USB data-cable as well and it’s no better, just in case anyone of you thinks it’s Bluetooth that’s hitting my browsing speed. Reminds me of 14.4K modem speed.
My Thoughts
I like the connectivity provided by this phone very much. The setup was very easy, just a few steps and you’re ready to connect!
The phone interfaces well with my other Bluetooth capable devices except for headsets.
