Over 500 Fish Died Of Poisoning At Underwater World Langkawi

LANGKAWI, Sept 25 (Bernama) –More than 500 fish of various species including sharks, placed in two large and five small tanks at Underwater World Langkawi (UWL) died from poisoning yesterday.

UWL deputy general manager Mohd Hafizuddin Abdullah said the dead fish were found floating in the tanks by a worker at 6.30 pm.

“It is estimated that between 500 and 600 fish from 30 to 50 of the world’s best species died,” he told reporters here Tuesday.

The dead fish include sharks, stingrays, and groupers aged 10 to 12 years-old.

Hafizuddin said UWL has 100 tanks containing 10 to 200 fish of various sizes for public display.

Langkawi Police Chief, Supt Mohamad Ali Jamaluddin said initial investigation showed that the fish died because of poisoning.

“We smelled petrol near the tanks and believe it was the work of more than one person,” he added.

This is sad. It’s like WTH?!?!? What ever did the Underwater World Langkawi and nature ever did to anyone? What’s the goal? What’s the purpose?

I’m appalled, mistake or not. Best among the species or not, I’m very sad to see this happened. How often do you come by 10 – 12 year old fish?

Damn it, whoever did this has done a huge “contribution” to nature. What do you guys think? Internal sabotage? Heck, doesn’t matter. I hope the crook is found.

I don’t see any way to recover this situation.
