Here’s the final installment of the series.

Let’s have a quick look at the phone.

LCD Screen

I like the LCD screen. It’s bright and crisp. Colors are nice. That’s all I can say about it.

Applications

I like the set of applications for this phone. Web Browser, RSS Reader, Alarm, Calendar, FM Radio – it’s pretty much all I need from a phone. The interface was easy to use.

The games were limited. I’m stuck with 3 demo games. It would’ve been good if Samsung could provide a little bit of entertainment for us. Like Radio? It’s there. Like video calls? It’s there too!

Ergonomics

The phone is sleek and slim. The best thing about this phone is that it doesn’t use a joystick! I phone that use joystick.

The bad part about this phone would be the keypad. The curves on the keypad is fine but for numbers 1, 2 and 3 – tough luck using it if you have huge thumbs or long finger nails. The sliding block of the phone would partially obstruct the access of those buttons.

Blogging

Yes, the Samsung SGH-L760 is touted to be the blogging phone. As stated on the product page – Imagine live blogging on the go“.

Let me tell you this, as a respectable blogger to all other readers and bloggers out there who think this phone will be great for blogging – DON’T BUY IT FOR BLOGGING PURPOSE! It sucks badly.

Live Blogging? It’s a joke, really! Look, the interface in the SGH-L760 would interact with Shozu portal that becomes the middle person to interact with sites like flickr, blogger, wordpress and so on so forth.

From my tests, I’ve been able to upload to Flickr and Blogger / Blogspot but wordpress.com failed to accept my upload even though the phone said the upload was successful.

Mind you, you can’t login to your blog and write an article like this. You could only post a photo and add 50 character’s worth of text. That’s NOT what you call blogging. That’s photo-sharing, to a certain extent photo-blogging but even so – are you going to upload 1 picture per post? Ridiculous.

Samsung – this phone is nice but to call it BLOGGING phone or BLOGGER phone is just plain misleading. 50 characters of text, great! It’s just enough to say something like “Now here am I at New York’s subway station.”

Battery Life

Battery life is decent as long as you don’t use stuff like 3G or keep playing music.

What I didn’t like was the battery indicator that’s horrible when it comes to accurately telling you how much juice you have left. The indicator has only 3 bar, so it could be at 3 bar for a few days then when it’s at 2 bar, it won’t be long before it reaches 1 bar. At 1 bar, it takes an even shorter time for the phone to reach low-battery status. Once it’s at low-battery status – it’s almost completely useless.

It’s really annoying, so when there’s only 2 bars left – do take note that it won’t be long before the phone is dead.

Conclusion

The phone rich in feature, there are flaws here and there but generally it’s a phone worth looking into. Just don’t EVER buy that stupid claim that it is a blogger phone, it’s a joke! You can’t even post a simple picture-less post on Blogspot.

For me, my favourite feature of this phone is its ability to function as a 3G modem – a great feature for a blogger like myself! With this phone, I could not only blog when I’m away on vacation, I could also keep in touch with my blog, my readers, my clients and forums that I am in charge of. The alarm and calendar applications come in handy to me too.

Bluetooth

The phone was hassle free when it comes to using bluetooth.

I’ve tried connecting to a Sony Ericsson K700i, Nokia 3110 classic and even an Apple Macbook – NO PROBLEMS! Connections were established easily, files were transferred in a jiffy.

The funny thing was that I couldn’t get it to detect bluetooth headset , even SAMSUNG’s WEP185. I tried with the 2 pieces of bluetooth devices with me, one from Sony Ericsson and the other from Samsung. None of them got detected. Both devices are confirmed in working condition, even the Samsung headset had no issues with Nokia 3110 classic.

The Macbook was the only means I have that I could show the data transfer rate for bluetooth connection.

3G

3G works great! I could browse using the NetFront browser that’s pre-installed on the phoen. I could get RSS feeds. I could do anything with the Internet, just that it’s a pity that browser didn’t work that well for me.

I could check stuff like Yahoo! Mail but unfortunately sending is just impossible. Neither could I log into the forums.

Please don’t ask me stupid things like DID YOU CHECK COOKIE OPTIONS, I’m not some newbie on using the Internet. I wouldn’t even be posting negative points without first checking.

As A Modem

My computers could connect to the Internet with this phone. Nice!

My PC connected to the mobile phone flawlessly. After installing the PC Studio software that came along with it, I could setup the Internet connection by using the phone as a modem. Cool.

On the Macbook, it just refuse to get detected via USB data-cable. Luckily it has Bluetooth connectivity. So I was pretty curious on whether I could use my Macbook to connect to the phone via Bluetooth and use it as a modem.

So here was my question to Samsung’s representative……

I have a macbook and it can interface with the L760’s Bluetooth.

Is it possible to share the bluetooth connection so that the macbook can access Internet via the L760’s 3G?

Here’s the reply I got……

No we do not have any Mac support for modem connection as of this moment for L760.

At the moment it fully supports WinXP and Vista.

User requires Samsung PC Studio installed on his/her machine in order for L760 to be recognised and used as modem, via either data-cable and bluetooth.

As you can see from the :: Mobile Exciting!! – Samsung Fun Club :: link for PC Studio, there’s only support for WinXP and Vista as of this moment.

So the Macbook can’t use the SGH-L760 as a modem like a PC? WRONG! It seems that the guys at Samsung don’t know their products very well. I’m not going to go into RANTING MODE so let’s move on …..

I managed to hook my Macbook to the Internet by connecting to the SGH-L760 with Bluetooth. Nope, no manual, no help, no nothing. Only Uncle Google for a little pointers here and there and a little bit of logic PLUS the understanding of establishing connection. Yes, It’s my first time using 3G device and establishing such a connection.

Finally my Macbook HAS mobility even WITHOUT that PC Studio software. Of course, that also meant no synchronization but I’m fine with that.

Pity it’s rather slow, Celcom’s so-called 384kbps connection is giving me such horrible speed. I tried 3G connection with USB data-cable as well and it’s no better, just in case anyone of you thinks it’s Bluetooth that’s hitting my browsing speed. Reminds me of 14.4K modem speed.

My Thoughts

I like the connectivity provided by this phone very much. The setup was very easy, just a few steps and you’re ready to connect!

The phone interfaces well with my other Bluetooth capable devices except for headsets.

Now you guys can help me win the phone! How? Just participate in a short survey by clicking on the image below. No image? Then click on this link.
