SilverStone Redline Series RL05 Desktop Casing Review

SilverStone is well-known for their radical but yet functional casing designs so when I was first introduced to the RL series in Computex, I was surprised at how plain it looked. Needless to say I wasn’t very keen on the casing but it turned out to be otherwise, it’s a fantastic casing for its price.

Simple as it is, the Redline series RL05 was created with the goal to exceed user experience and expectation while having the features that are found on their high-end products. The RL05 is a simple tower casing that is spacious, has large window, PSU shroud, 2x 140mm fan pre-installed and even USB 3.0 Type-C connector at the front.

Full specs of the casing as below, as seen at the official product page.

Starting from the front, the Redline RL05’s appearance is nice but not special. The one with red trims might look a bit more attractive to some but I like it in black.

Here’s the closer view of the top, the power and reset buttons are on the left and they’re almost hidden and somewhat tough to press.

The front panels opens but it’s not easily removed as the cables are all attached to it. You can see from the image that there are mounting points. 2x 140mm fan comes pre-installed, this means you can add radiator unit on it but the space might be limited and I’ll highlight that later when we get to the internals.

At the top the unit comes pre-fitted with dust-filter, feel free to change it to your preferred configuration.

From the rear the casing is no different from any others, and being a lower-cost casing it doesn’t have cut-out for water cooling tubes.

At the under-side there’s the dust-filter for the PSU.
