FSP 450w Micro ATX (FSP450-60GHS(85)-R) Power Supply Unit Review

Not a common sight in retailers here in Malaysia but nevertheless you can find this unit on Newegg.

SFF casings were a rave once but the heat died down over the years and recently the demand for SFF (small form factor) rigs are making a come back, a PSU like the FPS Micro ATX unit could actually work really well with such setups.

The contents are as seen in the image below, FSP included a metal panel to allow fitting the PSU even on a standard PSU mounting point.

Here’s a size comparison between the Micro ATX PSU and a Standard sized ATX PSU.

Here’s the height difference.

The PSU is simple as it is, a single cable for SATA and 4-pin Molex, with also a 6 + 8 pin PCI-E cable, 8 pin CPU12V cable, and of course the ATX cable.

There seems to be no room for the power delivery table so FSP opted for simple text, of which you can see that it’s 18A on both 12V rails. Yes, it’s a dual-rail PSU.

The contents are so compact, it’s practically calling out for you at the grill.

The design is simple, build is good and the 80mm fan is silent during operation.

And here’s how it looks like on a Mini-ITX casing.

The Verdict

The PSU retails at around 70 USD (approx MYR 200) IF you are able to find one, and it’s a one fine (yes, literally FINE) PSU.

What’s good to know that it is an 80Plus Bronze rated PSU, with sufficient power on the 12V rails even for good gaming setup. Based on the pin alone, looks like even the R9 280X is not a problem but I’ve so far only tested it with dual R7 260X of which it handled the power draw easily. I don’t see a problem pairing it with an Intel Core series processor but for AMD systems, it should be fine with the 125w units but I’ll avoid the power hungry monsters like the FX-9590.

The PSU also comes with complete OVP, OCP, SCP Protection.
– OVP: OVER VOLTAGE PROTECTION
– OCP: OVER CURRENT PROTECTION
– SCP: SHORT-CIRCUIT PROTECTION
