Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 520W (RS-520-SPM2) Power Supply Review

First review of the year and we have what seems to be a good PSU on our hands.

Without further ado, let’s look at the important bits

Looks good, 80+ Bronze at it too.

Quite the standard PSU design in the photo above, and below you see the connection sockets for the modular cables.

I think the indicators on where to put the PCI-E cables and SATA / Floppy / Molex cables are unnecessary as the cables were designed with specific header types so you can’t go wrong.

Lastly – the cables. They just came as it is in the box – very unlike the ones I saw that cames with Gigabyte Odin series, their cables were many and well packaged.

User Experience

Bear in mind that I’m no electrician nor engineer, it’s hard to conclude many things so my review of power supply is limited as a regular user.

The PSU itself feels solid, and what surprised me the most is how silent the PSU fan was. On the down side, I think the cables are rather short, considering Cooler Master itself has really huge casings (like the HAF series), so having the PSU at the bottom and a SATA device on a casing’s top bay would mean longer SATA cable is needed, especially if you’re into cable management.

Conclusion

The PSU looks good. Silent PC Review gave good feedback on the 720w variant of the Silent Pro M2 in this article. 🙂 With that, I think the CM Silent Pro M2 520w is a worthy recommendation, coming in at a price point of about RM 280.

*Interestingly – the 520w variant has 40A on 12V rails while the 720w variant has only 25A.

  1. I am interested to know about the taste and smell of the cables. Not all power supplies have good tasting cables. Sometimes they taste good but smell bad.
